Cinemark to build 14-screen movie theater in Southbay

inemark Holdings Inc., is a main operator and its theatre at SouthBay Pavilion and the nation’s third-largest theater chain. “The company will be a tremendous addition to this underserved market,” said a statement from Fred Sands, chairman of Vintage Real Estate, the mall’s owner. The closest theatres are miles away in the cities of Torrance and Redondo Beach.

This 1.1 million-square-foot investment property is set on 73 acres located off the 405 Freeway at the Avalon Boulevard exit just south of the South Bay beach cities. Target, Ikea, Old Navy Sears and JC Penney and Old Navy are some of the anchored credit tenants.

This Cinemark feature a new theater with a large. Cinemark XD Extreme Digital Cinema screen. A 72-foot, wall-to-wall and ceiling-to-floor screen, plus seating and a custom digital surround sound system, and self-serve concession stands. The XD auditorium will exhibit the movies in 2D and RealD 3D films and they will be delivered by a Doremi server and a Barco DLP digital projector.

Roger Burghdorf belives the addition of a theater should increase a mall’s sales by 17% to 22%. New additions to South Bay Pavilion include a Beauty Lounge & Spa, a new Olive Garden restaurant; and an Old Navy currently under construction on a new sore and other Net Lease tenants. Other fashion retailers are also scheduled to open soon along with several new restaurants and fast casual dining.
